Container Drayage, Toronto & GTA

Terminal to door without the delays. FCL drayage is where KDM started in 2011, and it is still the service our freight forwarder clients trust us with most.

Your Container, Off the Rail and to the Door

Our tractor-trailers and deep chassis pool keep containers moving from terminal to door without sitting on demurrage. We run over fifty chassis in 20, 40 and 53 foot sizes, with access to unlimited additional chassis when volumes spike.

Every move comes with continual tracking updates from a dispatcher who knows your file. That is why clients like Traffic Tech International and Gillespie-Munro have stayed with KDM since our first year in business.

How Drayage Works

From Arrival Notice to Empty Return

Four steps, one dispatcher, no demurrage surprises.

1

Send the Arrival Notice

Email dispatch the container number, terminal and free-time expiry. We pre-book the chassis and pickup window before the box even lands.

2

Terminal Pickup

A KDM tractor pulls your container on its assigned day, on our own chassis, so you never wait on a rental pool.

3

Deliver or Transload

Straight to your door, dock-level or curbside, or into our 200,000 sq ft facility for destuffing, storage or distribution.

4

Empty Return & POD

We return the empty inside free time and close the file with proof of delivery and a single, clean invoice.

Why It Matters

Drayage Is Where Landed Cost Is Won or Lost

Most importers treat drayage as a commodity until the first demurrage bill arrives. Terminals give you a handful of free days; miss them and the meter runs daily, per container. The difference between a carrier with fifty of its own chassis and one that rents from a shared pool is the difference between moving on day one and paying storage on day four.

KDM has been pulling containers for freight forwarders like Traffic Tech International and Gillespie-Munro since 2011. Our dispatchers watch free-time expiries as closely as you watch your inventory, and because the warehouse and the trucks share one desk, a jammed receiving dock never turns into a detention charge: we simply destuff the box at our facility and deliver when you are ready.

That is also why our drayage pairs naturally with storage, cross-docking and Ontario-wide distribution. One arrival notice can trigger the whole chain, tracked end to end by a person who answers the phone.

FAQ

Drayage Questions

Which terminals do you pick up from?
All major rail terminals serving the GTA, with port and rail pickups in other gateway cities handled through our trusted local partners.
Can you transload or store my container freight?
Yes. Our 200,000 sq ft Mississauga warehouse offers cross-docking, transloading and short or long-term storage under one roof.
What if I need extra chassis capacity?
We keep fifty chassis of various sizes on hand and have access to an unlimited amount when required, so peak season volumes are not a problem.
What is demurrage and how do you help me avoid it?
Demurrage is the daily fee terminals charge when a container overstays its free time. We pre-book pickups against the free-time clock and keep 50+ of our own chassis, so containers move the day they are available.
Do you handle reefer or special equipment containers?
Send dispatch the details on your quote request. With our own fleet plus vetted partners we can arrange the right equipment for most specialized moves.
